Samsung has lately joined the increasing list of organizations that have banned the use of ChatGPT within their organization due to the risk of sensitive information being leaked through the usage of this foreign technology. The Verge reports that Samsung has warned its employees that they are no longer permitted to utilize an AI-powered assistant for commercial purposes.
Following several reports that the online service had the potential to leak sensitive company information, causing harm to the companies and their clients, the decision was made. Online organizations such as Caesars Ontario and other casinos have also prohibited its use due to similar concerns about sensitive information leaks.
“We take data security and privacy very seriously,” a Samsung representative said, “and after conducting a thorough review, we have decided to ban the use of the AI-based tool within our organization to ensure the protection of our sensitive information.” This announcement was issued on May 3, 2023, and it goes into effect immediately.
Samsung’s decision is not unique. Several other organizations, including major tech companies such as Apple and Google, have also prohibited the use of AI-powered assistants within their organizations due to similar concerns about sensitive information leaks.
