A new study has uncovered the UK cities with the highest search volume for mental health services, with Worcester topping the list. According to data analyzed by Meditopia, a comprehensive mental health support service, the city sees an average of 1,040 searches per month for mental health help per 100,000 residents.
The survey focused on 97 mental health-related search terms, ranging from specific services like ‘CAMHS’ and ‘BetterHelp’ to general advice like ‘how to feel happier.’ Worcester’s mental health support searches have surged by over 30%, outperforming similarly sized cities such as West Bromwich and Chesterfield.
Following Worcester, Gloucester ranks second with 1,019 searches per 100,000 residents, driven by a notable interest in ‘Kooth,’ while Liverpool ranks third with 915 searches per 100,000 residents, with ‘CAMHS’ and ‘BetterHelp’ as the most common search terms.
Other cities on the list include Bristol, Bournemouth, Plymouth, Preston, Reading, Stockport, and Bolton. The findings highlight a growing need for accessible mental health resources and support services across the UK.
Commenting on the findings, Fatih Mustafa Çelebi, Co-founder and CEO of Meditopia, said: “The topic of mental health has always had a stigma attached to it, one we’re fighting to change. The internet has helped, allowing people to seek out support in a confidential way from the comfort of their homes, while also opening services previously unavailable to the masses.
“What is concerning is the high volume of searches for mental health support for young people, driving home the fact that children are suffering from these issues disproportionately.
“Reach out to your loved ones and make sure they’re heard, offering your support to remind them that they are not alone.”
