A new podcast titled The Art of Marketing Science made its debut this week with a thought-provoking first episode: “Are Scientists Human?”

Co-hosted by brand strategist Julian Stubbs and scientist-turned-marketer Dr. Robert England, the show delves into the intersection of science, storytelling, and communication. The series seeks to uncover how recognizing the emotional and human aspects of science can unlock more meaningful and impactful marketing strategies.

With a mix of expert insight and engaging dialogue, The Art of Marketing Science is set to become a go-to listen for marketers, scientists, and curious minds alike.

Blending wit, storytelling, and decades of experience in life science and marketing, the inaugural episode takes listeners from the complex character of Robert J. Oppenheimer to Nobel Laureate Kary Mullis, examining what truly motivates scientists. Far from being the cold, logical archetypes often portrayed in the media, Stubbs and England argue that scientists are profoundly human—driven by emotion, ambition, vulnerability, and curiosity.

Julian Stubbs, co-founder of UP THERE, EVERYWHERE and former global branding head at Pharmacia Biotech, shares anecdotes including how he named the iconic ÄKTA system. Dr. England brings unique insights from both lab and boardroom, recounting tales of Nobel candidates, academic egos, and branding lessons inspired by David Bowie and The Beatles.

“This podcast is about more than science or marketing,” said Stubbs. “It’s about understanding people—how emotion, curiosity, and creativity drive even the most brilliant scientific minds.”

Future episodes promise equally fascinating content, including the story of Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman and the psychedelic discovery of LSD, the cultural revolution it sparked, and what it all means for marketers today.
